Quality Assurance (QA) is the process of monitoring specific project results to determine if they comply with relevant quality standards, and find ways to eliminate any causes of the unsatisfactory performance.
When checking the layout of the files, the QA team members apply strict criteria. They check punctuation, headers and footers, titles, numbering and graphics, and update the cross-references, tables of contents and indexes, etc.
The standard list for QA checks involves the following:
- Fonts
- Text size
- Paragraphs formatting
- Alignment
- Paper size
- Headers and footers (if any)
- Quotation marks
- Spaces around pictures (left, right, top, down)
- Bold, italic or underline text
- Double spaces, periods, commas, etc.
- Spaces before commas
- Spaces before periods
- Rows and lines of the tables (if any)
- Position and size of the lines (if any)
- Pictures
- Missing periods
- Bullets
- Missing parts and sentences
- Updating the links
- Superscripts and Unicode
- Localization of the graphics
- Margins
